LAVA/BSTP - Final Programme (353.7 KiB, 433 hits)
The theme of this year’s conference will be “Infectious Diseases of Rodents and Rabbits”. We have a number of excellent speakers lined up to talk on subjects which include:
- Immunocompromised animals and infectious disease
- Designing health monitoring schemes for rodents
- New applications of molecular techniques to manage risks relating to health status of genetically engineered rodents
- Disease monitoring – a microbiologists perspective
- Risk approach to importing tissue, cell lines, sera
- Zoonotic diseases
The prevalence of infectious disease in rodents and rabbits is generally low in most Pharma and CRO facilities and as a result many pathologists have limited experience of disease outbreaks. This CPD meeting offers an opportunity to revise common, important and zoonotic diseases so that a potential barrier breakdown can be recognised. In addition smaller facilities often have a lower health status and so it’s important to be able to recognise potential infectious diseases in animals which may confound results in discovery studies performed with collaborators.
The second day of the meeting is aimed at understanding how colony barriers are maintained and monitored which is vital background information to enable pathologists to understand the health status of animals they work with in house and externally. Understanding the contribution of pathogens, commensal organisms and microbiota is also essential to understanding phenotypes in animal models.
There will also be some of the old favourites, such as case studies from members, and the Home Office forum, which this year will take the form of a question and answer session.
The LAVA Biennial General Meeting will be held at 17.00 on Tuesday 27th and this will be followed by the Conference dinner.
The administration for this meeting will be undertaken by LAVA.
Cost and payment
LAVA have again managed to keep the price for the whole conference to £350, which includes registration for both days, 2 night’s accommodation at the venue and the conference dinner. There are also day-rates available, making it possible for mix-n-match, according to your budget and availability.
This year, for the first time, it will be possible to register on-line and choose your method of payment, which may be by credit/debit card, bank transfer, or cheque. Payment by credit/debit card will incur an additional charge of 4.95% of the total invoice, which will be added to your invoice automatically. Payment by BACS transfer or cheque will avoid this card fee.
If you wish to pay against a Purchase Order number, please choose this option at the checkout, print your invoice and arrange for payment by your establishment as soon as possible, using BACS transfer or a cheque.
Please note that there will be a late-payment charge of £25 for all registrations received after 31st August, and delegates will also need to make their own accommodation arrangements after this date.
If you wish to register an interest in attending, or have any other queries regarding this meeting, please contact Chris Trower – chris@crowmarsh.f9.co.uk or the BSTP Secretariat – bstpoffice@aol.com, who will forward your email on.
