BelTox – Introduction to Toxicology and Ecotoxicology
The Belgian Society of Toxicology and Ecotoxicology
Introduction to Toxicology and Ecotoxicology as the Scientific Basis for the Management of Chemical Risk
According to the Eurobarometer (Eurostat, 2020), 84% of Europeans are worried about the impact of chemicals present in everyday products on their health, and 90% are worried about their impact on the environment. Indeed, chemical-related risk factors for human and environmental health are complex in nature. A lack of understanding of its basic principles is definitely a hurdle for drawing the right conclusions from scientific data and translating them into a language that is understandable for the community at large. In line with its mission to foster chemical hazard and risk assessment practices, the Belgian Society for Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (BelTox) aims to support everyone who seeks to better understand the generation and interpretation of scientific information on the adverse impact of chemicals on human and environmental health.
Therefore, Beltox organizes on 27 October 2022 the one-day seminar “Introduction to Toxicology and Ecotoxicology as the Scientific Basis for the Management of Chemical Risk” at the Elewijtcenter, Zemst.
This seminar addresses an audience without prior knowledge in (eco)toxicology but in need of a better understanding of chemical safety assessment and management in view of their professional activities such as industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, product stewardship and management, chemical and environmental legislation , firefighting, disaster management, journalism and teaching. As such, the objective of this seminar is not trying to build experts in chemical risk assessment in a one-day crash course, but to touch upon and explain the basics. The lecturers are recognized experts from the Belgian scientific community and the program foresees the possibility to discuss with the lecturers at the Q&A sessions and during lunch and coffee breaks. The presentations will be given in English and the participation fee includes lecture materials, lunch and coffee breaks.
Registration is possible via the website of BelTox. The registration fee is 150 € for BelTox members and 250 € for non-members. If you or members of your organization are interested and would like to have more information about the seminar, please send your questions in an e-mail to admin@beltox.be.
