2025 marks the 40th year of the BSTP and the joint Congress with the ESTP in Manchester, in September will be our 40th Annual Scientific Meeting.
Definitely a significant milestone to celebrate the existence of our Society, started in 1985 to ‘Foster Training and Advance Education in Toxicological Pathology’ and ‘To advance pathology for the public benefit in all aspects pertaining to the effects of extraneous substances and environmental agents to which man or other species are exposed…’.
Key figures in the establishment and running of the Society in those early years established quite a legacy - our profession has evolved over these last 40 years, both technologically and in the breadth of our remit, extending further into experimental pathology and applying our knowledge and skills to both human and animal tissues and cellular systems. The BSTP’s core educational remit has continued to go from strength to strength, with other global societies emulating our educational modules, and the establishment of online delivery of our modules and an expanding programme of webinars, many in partnership with other international pathology organisations and societies.
It also marks the retirement of our BSTP Secretariat - Sue; our enduring success as a society has been due in no small part to the tremendous support and advice that Sue has provided over many years.
We are in the process of organising ways to celebrate, and this year’s Joint Toxicologic Pathology Congress with the ESTP is an obvious focal point. Some plans are already in place, but Council would like to hear YOUR ideas as BSTP Members – this is your society: how would you like to see us celebrate our official 40th Birthday?
Please share your ideas by emailing us at bstpsecretariat@gmail.com as soon as possible, to maximise the chances of implementing them. We’d also love to receive any old photos you have, memories, reflections, stories, etc…..We can’t promise we’ll be able to implement every suggestion, but we’ll consider all ideas submitted and follow up on what we feel are the best ones.
Thanks in anticipation, and we look forward to seeing many of you in Manchester in September.
