Continuing Professional Development is a commitment by a pathologist to continue the educational process throughout their career. In recent years, the medical profession, including the Royal College of Pathologists, has sought to provide a formal process whereby members can generate a personal CPD document that is suitable for external audit.
Any pathologist can register themselves with the Royal College of Pathologists' CPD scheme, irrespective of membership of the College. In return they make a commitment to undertake 50 hours of CPD per year over a 5-year period.
In recent years the BSTP has undertaken to support those members that have committed themselves to the Royal College of Pathologists CPD Scheme. To do this we aim to provide information, updates and training for experienced pathologists that will qualify for formal CPD credits.
The Education Sub-committee is authorised to allocate CPD credits for its activities and all of our activities are assessed accordingly. In addition it may also be possible to accredit some non-BSTP meetings for CPD points as a service to our members.
At present the BSTP organise two CPD seminars a year. The first seminar is usually in the Spring with the second seminar being the Annual Scientific Meeting. Where possible the BSTP tries to avoid a clash with Modules and other major meetings
In the past Spring seminars have been held both in the UK and in Europe (in conjunction with another STP), with the Autumn seminar tending to be held in the UK.
The emphasis is on interaction with our distinguished speakers and recent advances in the field.
